1. Policy statement

Journey to Healthcare CIC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk who access its services or participate in its activities.

Journey to Healthcare CIC recognises that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All participants have the right to learn, receive mentoring, attend events and undertake placements in an environment that is safe, respectful, inclusive and free from abuse, neglect, exploitation, harassment and discrimination.

Journey to Healthcare CIC will:

• place the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk at the centre of its decision-making;
• listen to safeguarding concerns and take them seriously;
• respond promptly and proportionately to concerns;
• maintain appropriate professional boundaries;
• recruit mentors, staff and volunteers safely;
• provide safeguarding training;
• work with parents, carers, placement providers and statutory agencies where appropriate;
• share information when necessary to prevent or reduce harm;
• maintain secure safeguarding records;
• learn from incidents, complaints and low-level concerns.

Organisations that work with children should have safeguarding policies and procedures and be able to respond to child-protection concerns.
